Southeast of Zhuanghe lies the old town of Qingduizi, remembered in the saying ‘Qingdui came first, Zhuanghe after.’ As early as the Ming-Qing period it was a famed mart of southern Liaoning: cargo boats called at its wharves, mountain and sea goods changed hands, and grain, cloth, grocery and medicine shops lined the old street for centuries. The flagstones and grey-brick houses remain, their doorways still hinting at old signboards. Now one of the region’s best-preserved ancient towns, it draws visitors to walk the polished stones and hear the old shops’ stories.
